| Imagine the scene of coloful Nishikigoi swimming all around the
pond. How beautiful each koi moves showing their tone of color.
You can enjoy not only the swimming beauty in school but also
beauty of each koi. When judging the Nishikigoi in the shows,the followings are requirements. They should have: 1.Beautiful figure,and no abnormality or defects in form. 2.Good quality. 3.Distinct coloration and snow-white ground, and even and dense Hi(red color) and Sumi(black color). 4.A pattern peculiar to its variety. 5.Sheen and luster. The small koi should have grace and refinement,while the big one should have power and personality. Each koi keeper have their own favorites. | The average life span of Nishikigoi is said to be about 70 years old. As Nishikigoi is an animal,the water of the pond must be kept clean and oxygen must be alwayas sufficient. We must exercise them so that they will feel hungry and have a good figure. It is important to think about how to keep water clean physically and chemically and move it when you construct a pond or when you provide some equipments. Recently we have good medicine for the worms which attach to Nisikigoi and they can be easily removed. Reserches on skin diseases and troubles of the internal organs are also in progress. Before,we used to hear say that Nishikigoi are beautiful but they easily die. However,nowdays,if you follow Nishikigoi fancier's advice and acquire a general knowledge of keeping them,you won't let them die so often. Nishikigoi will grow rapidly and live long if they are raised in a proper way. |

| You can fully enjoy koi keeping even in an aquarium. When you
keep koi in an aquarium,pay attention to the followings: [Place] Should be convenient to pour water and drain water,and select the place which can maintain an even water temperature. [Water] When the tap water is used,neutralize the chlorine by the hypo and so on. Do not change the water so often. Examine the underground water before using. [Aquarium] Should be equipped the filtration system. [Food] Two or three times a day. When the temperature goes down,give a small amount of food. [Water temperature] 20-25C is the most comfortable for koi. |
